Living in Seattle can be tough at times, especially as the gloomy days seem to drag on as the rest of the world it seems is enjoying sunshine. There is something very unusually soothing though about the rain or mist rather that is calming to the soul. I get asked sometimes “how can you deal with all that rain up there?” Yes, it does get to me sometimes but there are things I love about the rain too. I love sleeping with my windows open and listening to the mist fall, lulling me to sleep-no sleep machine needed! I also love the coziness of the rain, but that’s probably why we are so overly caffeinated here in Evergreen state.
I recently was downtown on one of the few glorious beautiful and sunny days and I had to snap this photo of Pikes Place Market. If you have watched Sleepless in Seattle you’ve seen this is the famous place where the fisherman throw the fish to get attrition from tourist, hoping that some amused passerby will purchase a fish from them. It’s also the place to get some amazing food, a gorgeous bouquet of flowers, some fresh produce and some handmade crafts. It’s really a neat place even for the seasoned Seattlite like myself. I’ll be honest, I don’t get down there unless I have guests visiting who want to go take a tour because well the parking stinks but I do enjoy playing tourist with guest who come to see what Seattle has to offer.
What’s something that your city is known for? Is it something that you frequent or like myself, only go to when showing someone from out of town? When I travel, personally I go for the food and the company. I like to see how the locals dine and what they are all about-instead of checking off the “must see’s” from a Frommer’s travel book. I like to show people the things see when they come to Seattle but I also have a few other gems that’s not in Frommer’s that I think they must see and experience as well.
Here’s to more traveling in your future.
