Yesterday was my Happy Birthday. I celebrated it by taking the day off and celebrating (taking) care of me.
I am 54 and have now officially spent 1/2 of my life in a caretaker/parental role. As much as it’s been a huge blessing to be able to be in that position, it’s also a bit of a reality check. I am a huge fan/believer in the Air Mask Mantra. Taking care of yourself first so you can be there for others. but as anyone who’s ever been a caretaker/parent will tell you, it’s quite easy to put yourself and your needs on the back burner. It just happens.
This year has been a busy one with Chris recouping, taking care of Julian and mom having pneumonia. It’s therapy on Monday, Wednesday and Dr appointments on Tues, etc. Leaves little time for making your own Dr appointments. So I spent my Happy Birthday with Chris out running errands.
I had a Mammogram and if you’re in the market for one I highly recommend Kaiser in Pasadena. I’ve had a few Mammograms in my day but the lovely staff at the Kaiser in Pasadena were as kind as can be.
I got my annual hair cut yesterday and showed up at Alcid’s asking him to take it all off. I don’t think I’ve ever seen him more excited with a pair of scissors before. He did and told me I was brave. Nah, it’s just hair and I am blessed that mine is healthy and grows like a freaking weed. At the end, there was more hair on the ground than on my head. This morning I went to wash my hair and put in way too much shampoo!! Oops. It’s going to take a bit to get used to.
The best part about yesterday was spending the day with Chris. We had lunch at a fabulous Taco restaurant, Tacos el Negro in Downey while we were contemplating our kitty adoption. We ended up adopting the most precious kitten, a feral kitten. Big shout out to the folks at LA Animal Control in Downey. One of the officers was a bit concerned because it was feral and had notes about it being fearful etc so he wanted to check it out first. Thankfully he made the decision with the other Officer that we’d be fine taking the little guy home with us. He weighed in at 13.6 ounces.
